RWE is taking part in Japan’s largest annual energy trade exhibition

Japan, 3 August 2022

RWE, one of the world’s leading companies for renewable energies, is taking part in Japan’s largest annual energy trade exhibition. This underlines RWE’s ambitions to further expand its renewables business to Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region. During the “WIND EXPO 2022 [September]” event, taking place from 31st August through 2nd September at Makuhari Messe, RWE will be one of the leading exhibitors. RWE staff will share their expertise and experience in the development, construction and operation of large-scale offshore wind farms and give insights into new technologies, such as floating offshore wind and hydrogen.

RWE is a global leader in offshore wind, with more than 20-years experience in successfully developing, building and operating offshore wind projects.  RWE see good growth opportunities for offshore wind in the APAC region having established offices in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and India.  Particularly, offshore wind has been attracting attention in Japan towards an ambitious target of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.  In 2019, RWE Renewables opened its Tokyo office and now having a local presence of over 30 offshore wind professionals, RWE aims to leverage its global capabilities and expertise to develop, build and operate large scale offshore wind farms in Japan – together with its Japanese partners.

RWE has ambitious plans for further growth in the field of renewable energies

RWE is determined to contribute its expertise gained from the realisation and operation of 18 offshore wind farms in five European countries to forge ahead with offshore wind in Japan. By 2030, RWE intends to grow its global offshore wind capacity from currently 3 GW to 8 GW (capacity represents RWE’s share only). Currently, RWE is constructing the 342 MW Kaskasi project off the German island Heligoland and its 1.4 GW Sofia project in the UK, one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world. More than 10 GW of secured offshore capacity are also under development. Furthermore, RWE is well on track to become a leader in floating wind and to have 1 GW either in operation or under construction by 2030. To gain experience early, RWE is participating in multiple floating demonstration projects in Norway, Spain and the US, each based on different technical concepts. The most advanced project is the TetraSpar Demonstrator project, which was commissioned off the Norwegian coast in 2021.

RWE is leading the way to a green energy world. With an extensive investment and growth strategy, the company will expand its powerful, green generation capacity to 50 GW internationally by 2030. RWE is investing €50 billion gross for this purpose in this decade. The portfolio is based on offshore and onshore wind, solar, hydrogen, batteries, biomass and gas.
